East Asian Soccer picks Ten of the Best personalities and players in the 2016 Asian Champions League.
Number 8 – Dejan Damjanovic
In 2014 he left his beloved Seoul and the K-League. Damjanovic made his way to the Chinese Super League and Beijing Guoan – via Jiangsu Suning.
As Beijing were drawn against FC Seoul in the Group Stage of that year’s Asian Champions League, Damjanovic’s transfer included a clause that guaranteed he didn’t play against his old club in the ACL Group Stage. Hence the short stint at Jiangsu Suning.
Needless to say big Dejan never enjoyed the same success in China as he did in Korea. In last year’s CSL the Montenegrin grabbed 16 goals. In the eyes of most mortals that’s a handy haul, but it’s a drop in the ocean in comparison to his 24 and 31 goal hauls at FC Seoul in 2011 & 2012 respectively.
At 34 some may say father time is catching up with Dejan, but perhaps the familiar surrounds and the love of the fans will bring out the best in one of Seoul’s favourite sons.
