Yesterday (6/3/20) trainer Kris Lees stated that Parramatta Cup winner Mustajeer would be targetting the Tancred Stakes (The BMW) at Rosehill on Saturday, 28th March.
The Newcastle based trainer spoke to Gary Harley of Sky Racing during the Newcastle meeting on Friday and was asked about plans for Mustajeer. As well as outlining his preparation for the imported stayer, he spoke about his disappointment at last year’s Melbourne Cup. Lees mentioned the lack of pace in the 2019 Melbourne Cup, noting that it didn’t suit Mustajeer, but interestingly he also said he was not sure if Mustajeer was a genuine two miler.
Mustajeer is expeced to race in the Sky High Stakes on Saturday, 14th March before taking on the Group 1 Tancred Stakes (The BMW) two weeks after that. The seven year old (d.o.b. 17/4/2013) was purchased by Australian Bloodstock last year after winning the 2787m Ebor Handicap in England.
