2019 Melbourne Cup Weights And Order Of Entry Published

The Victorian Racing Club has published the Order of Entry for the 2019 Melbourne Cup following the allocation of weights for the 152 nominated hopefuls. The list leaves some runners with plenty of work to do before gaining entry to Australia’s most prestigious staying event. Many foreign runners will also need to prove themselves before contesting the Cup as well.

Two of the Japanese hopes Meiner Wunsch and Mer De Glace are both unqualified at this stage and with 92 horses in front of them they’ll have to do something in Australia before making it to the big dance on the first Tuesday in November. Lys Gracieux however, is definitely qualified appearing at number 2 in the Order of Entry but he is more likely to contest the 2040m Cox Plate.

Meanwhile, in England today (Saturday, 00.10 AEST) we’ll see 72nd ranked Barsanti run against super stayer Stradivarius and his companion Dee Ex Bee in the G2 Doncaster Cup. Barsanti was impressive in the Ebor Handicap with trainer Roger Varian saying, “. . . had he got the room when he needed it, it could have been a very different story. Stradivarius and Dee Ex Be will be hard to beat but if he gets the trip he could run very well.”

The winner of the Ebor, Mustajeer is ranked 16th on the Order of Entry and should not have to do anymore to contest the race. Raymond Tusk another runner in that race (finishing 4th) is ranked 34th and for his connections it will depend on the attrition rate in over the next 7-8 weeks.

Take a look at the list below the video and don’t forget the Order of Entry will be updated on a weekly basis, so be sure to bookmark the Lew Dub’s Personal Best website.
